As the Head of Social Media, you’ll drive the vision and strategy for all social channels, positioning Yelp as the go-to destination for discovery, recommendations, inspiration and action. You’ll lead a talented team and collaborate with cross-functional partners to make Yelp’s social presence indispensable for local explorers. We’re seeking a leader with a proven track record in multi-channel social, who’s deeply knowledgeable about digital storytelling, content trends, community-building, connecting social initiatives to business results and particularly striking the right balance between national/global vs. local strategies. You bring expertise in strategy as well as a passion for coaching teams, and you aren’t afraid to experiment and move fast. We welcome leaders who are already well-versed in applying AI to social strategy—or those who have a deep passion and curiosity to learn and deploy these technologies to enhance content quality and performance.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and execute Yelp’s social media strategy across relevant platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn (B2B) and others, prioritized based on alignment with goals), scaling Yelp’s reach, engagement, and loyalty. Design a sound approach to managing both national and local handles leveraging the strengths and opportunities of each.
  • Oversee creation of visually compelling, authentic and effective content that spotlights local businesses, product launches and the overall Yelp experience. Partner with internal teams to finalize creative assets.
  • Lead day-to-day operations and build and mentor a team of social strategists.
  • Build and engage authentic communities by fostering dialogue, responding to comments , and managing relationships with advocates and influencers.
  • Set, track, and analyze KPIs, using data and insights to guide continuous optimization of content and campaigns. Partner with internal teams to establish reporting infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Growth Marketing, Community, Communications and Product teams to integrate social campaigns with broader marketing initiatives, product feature development, and business goals. Nurture strong relationships with senior leadership and key cross-org stakeholders.
  • Drive innovation by staying ahead of platform trends, content formats, and best practices, testing new ideas and channels.
  • Conduct audience and competitor research: Develop crisp insights that inform our strategy and shape our communications.
  • Monitor reputation and manage community issues proactively, maintaining high standards for responsiveness and care.
  • Provide proactive and reactive support for the Communications team: Support company announcements, corporate communications initiatives, and issues management.

What it takes to succeed:

  • 8-12+ years of experience in social media marketing, including at least 3 years managing teams.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategies across multiple social platforms to drive business results, with a strong grasp of emerging channels and user-generated content (UGC).
  • Expertise in digital storytelling, visual content, online community engagement, and influencer partnerships.
  • Data-savvy approach with ability to create, monitor, and act on social KPIs and analytics.
  • Proficient with social analytics, listening, and influencer management platforms such as Brandwatch, Sprout Social, Tagger, and CreatorIQ to identify opportunities and drive results.
  • Knowledge of AI tools to improve the quality and impact of your social strategy—or a deep passion and curiosity to learn and deploy these technologies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to advocate for your vision and inspire teams.
  • Adaptability and creativity—comfortable with experimentation and rapid iteration in response to trends and feedback.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with creative, marketing, product, and PR teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or similar field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • A growth mindset, curiosity for social trends, excitement for exploring the use of AI to uplevel the quality of our work, and genuine enthusiasm for Yelp’s mission.

  • Compensation range for this position is $122,000 - $200,000 annually. You may also be offered a bonus and benefits.
